Born in Trieste, Italy, January 9, 1944. Degree in law from the University of Trieste, 1966.
Seasonal lecturer in International Law, University of Trieste, 1966-1968.
Entered the Italian Foreign Service in September 1968

1968 – 1970: Assigned to the Department of Political Affairs (Disarmament and Security), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rome

1970 – 1973: Vice Consul, Italian Consulate General in Munich, West Germany

1973 – 1975: First Secretary, Italian Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina

1975 – 1977: Office of the Chief of Staff of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rome

1977 – 1982: Counsellor at the Italian Embassy in Mexico City, Mexico

1982 – 1984: Department of Political Affairs (Western Europe and USA, bilateral relations), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rome

1984 – 1991: First Counsellor at the Italian Embassy in Washington, D.C., USA

1991 – 1993: Minister Plenipotentiary, Department of Political Affairs (Middle East Peace Process), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rome
