“The return of the Taliban has dramatically worsened the condition of women, rendering them invisible in society under the weight of Sharia law. This is not only social oppression — it is a social catastrophe. We call on public institutions, including universities, to give women a voice. Let us not turn our backs on these silent wars through indifference.”
With these words, Maria Bashir — the first female Chief Prosecutor in Afghanistan — offered a moving testimony during the event “Afghanistan. Sharia. Women. An extraordinary testimony”, organized in collaboration with Med-Or Italian Foundation.
The event opened with remarks by Gaetano Quagliariello, Dean of the Luiss School of Government, and Ms. Federica Mondani, Advisor to the Minister of Defence, followed by a contribution from Marco Minniti, President of the Med-Or Foundation.
